Originally located in the SF Bay Area, I have recently moved to Torrance, CA. I’m still trying to save banners from landfills and give them a second useful life.
Plastic bags in my state were phased out several years ago. Even before I had been trying to use as many reusable bags as I could. My favorite bag was a thin vinyl-esque fabric, a perfect size for groceries with sturdy handles that acted a belt to hold the bags in folded square when not used.
I began noticing all the vinyl banners advertising various events around my city that had dates on them – meaning that they would be out of date as soon as the event was over. I started to contact the groups and see if there were plans for the banners once their advertising life was over.
I wanted to save these banners from landfills and give them a second long term life. Inspired by my favorite shopping bag, I made several standard sizes of bags. A Large, perfect for warehouse stores, beach trips and more. A medium, perfect for typical groceries. A small, perfect for lunches, gifts and quick store stops. A set of sturdy webbing handles round out each bag, folded for easy storage and includes a tag with a photo of the banner your bag is made from.
